According to test scores and end of course data we see disparity gaps in CCSD studentscores. How do you plan to address these achievement gaps among specific student populations (i.e. high poverty, MLL, special needs, ethnic/racial diversity) without leaving any groups behind?

Addressing the achievement gaps in CCSD requires a multifaceted approach. I believe in the importance of providing targeted resources to meet the unique needs of each student population while ensuring that no group is left behind. This means:

  1. Equitable Funding: Ensuring that schools serving high-poverty, multilingual learners (MLL), special needs, and ethnically/racially diverse populations receive the necessary resources and funding to address their specific challenges.

  2. Tailored Support Programs: Implementing customized academic support programs, such as after-school tutoring, mentorship, and language acquisition services, to meet students where they are and help them succeed.

  3. Teacher Training: Offering professional development for educators that equips them with the tools to teach diverse student populations effectively, including cultural competency training and strategies for inclusive education.

  4. Data-Driven Interventions: Using data to identify areas where students are falling behind and applying targeted interventions that address those gaps early, before they widen.

  5. Wraparound Services: Providing holistic support, such as mental health resources and family engagement programs, to ensure students have the stability and support they need outside the classroom to thrive academically.

  6. Inclusive Curriculum: Promoting an inclusive curriculum that reflects the diversity of the student body and ensures all students see themselves represented in their education.

By addressing the unique needs of each group and promoting equitable access to education, we can close achievement gaps while ensuring that no student is left behind.
